AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
Pizhichil
Warm medicated oil squeezed continuously over the whole body from soaked cloths, combined with gentle massage. The classical rejuvenating therapy for Vata conditions, weakness and stiffness.
01WHAT IT IS
पिऴिच्चिल् · Sarvanga Dhara · To squeeze; a stream of warm oil over the whole body
Pizhichil is often called the king of Ayurvedic treatments. Cloths soaked in warm medicated oil are squeezed rhythmically over the body while therapists massage in synchrony, so that a continuous warm stream bathes the skin from head to toe. The oil is kept at temperature throughout and a considerable quantity is used.
It combines the effects of oleation and sudation in one therapy and is traditionally used for Vata disorders: stiffness and pain of the joints and muscles, weakness and wasting, recovery after prolonged illness, and general rejuvenation. It is a central therapy in Panchkarma programs and is highly relaxing.

05QUESTIONS
Common questions about Pizhichil.
How much oil is used?
Several litres of medicated oil are warmed and recirculated during a session. The oil is chosen for your constitution and concern.
Is Pizhichil the same as Abhyanga?
Abhyanga is an oil massage. Pizhichil adds a continuous warm stream of oil over the body while massage is given, which makes it both an oleation and a sudation therapy. It is more intensive and usually reserved for residential programs.
Can it be done on a day visit?
It can be arranged, but because of the preparation and the rest required afterwards it is best experienced within a residential Panchkarma program.
