AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS

Acupressure &
Acupuncture

Point-based therapies that use finger pressure or fine sterile needles to relieve pain, ease stress and support the body's own regulation. Offered alongside Ayurveda and naturopathy at Arogya Retreatt.

03 / AROGYA

01WHAT IT IS

Acupressure and acupuncture work on the same map of points along the body's meridians. Acupressure uses sustained finger or thumb pressure on those points; acupuncture uses very fine, single-use sterile needles. Both are traditionally used to relieve pain, release tension and support the body's own regulation of sleep, digestion and mood.

At Arogya Retreatt these therapies are offered as complements to Ayurvedic and naturopathic care. Partial acupressure focuses on a region such as the back, neck or feet; full-body acupressure covers the major points from head to toe. Acupuncture is given by a trained practitioner after assessment.

02HOW IT IS DONE AT AROGYA

  1. 01

Consultation identifies the concern and whether pressure or needling is appropriate.

  2. 02

You lie or sit comfortably, clothed, with the region to be treated exposed as needed.

  3. 03

For acupressure, points are held with steady pressure for a set time each, working through a sequence.

  4. 04

For acupuncture, sterile needles are placed at selected points and retained for around twenty minutes while you rest.

  5. 05

Needles are removed and points may be gently massaged; you rest for a few minutes.

04WHAT TO EXPECT

Acupressure feels like a focused, deep massage and may be tender at certain points. Acupuncture needles are very fine and most guests feel little more than a brief prick and a dull, heavy sensation at the point. Sessions are relaxing, and a short course is usual for chronic concerns.

06QUESTIONS

Common questions about Acupressure & Acupuncture.

Are the needles safe?

Yes. Only single-use, pre-sterilised needles are used and disposed of after each session.

Which is better, acupressure or acupuncture?

They address similar concerns. Acupuncture is generally considered more precise for pain; acupressure is preferred by guests who wish to avoid needles or who want a therapy they can partly learn for home use. The practitioner will advise.

How many sessions are needed?

Some relief is often felt after one session. For chronic pain a course of five to ten sessions is typical.
