01WHAT IT IS

लेप · Lepa, a herbal paste applied to the skin

Lepa is the Ayurvedic practice of applying a freshly ground herbal paste to the skin. This application combines neem, valued for its cleansing and cooling qualities; aloe vera, for soothing and hydration; and turmeric, for its traditional role in calming inflammation and brightening the skin. The paste is applied to the face, body or an affected region and left to work before being washed off.

It is used for acne-prone and oily skin, mild rashes and itching, sun exposure, and as a cooling, cleansing application in Pitta-type skin tendencies. It also forms part of general skin care within a residential program. A patch test is done first for guests with sensitive skin.

02HOW IT IS DONE AT AROGYA

  1. 01

Consultation assesses the skin and any known sensitivities; a patch test is done where needed.

  2. 02

The herbs are freshly prepared into a smooth paste.

  3. 03

The skin is cleansed and the paste is applied evenly to the region.

  4. 04

The paste is left to act for around thirty minutes while you rest.

  5. 05

It is washed off with lukewarm water and a light moisturising oil or gel may be applied.

05QUESTIONS

Common questions about Neem, Aloe Vera & Turmeric Lepa.

Will turmeric stain my skin?

A faint yellow tint can remain for a few hours, particularly on fair skin. It fades with washing and is not permanent.

Can it be used on the face?

Yes. The face is one of the most common regions for this lepa, especially for acne-prone skin, after a patch test if your skin is sensitive.
