Netra
Tarpanam
Medicated ghee pooled around the eyes inside dough rings to nourish and relax them. Used for eye strain, dryness, screen fatigue and tired eyes. Also covers eye cleansing. Arogya Retreatt, Bahadurgarh.
01WHAT IT IS
नेत्र तर्पण · Netra, the eyes, and tarpana, nourishment
Netra Tarpanam bathes the eyes in warm medicated ghee. Dough rings are shaped around each eye socket and filled with ghee at body temperature, and you are asked to gently open and close the eyes so that the preparation reaches every surface. The eyes rest in the ghee for a set time, then it is removed and a mild eye wash follows.
It is Ayurveda's principal nourishing therapy for the eyes and is traditionally used for dryness, strain from screens and reading, tired or burning eyes, and as supportive care in a range of eye tendencies assessed by the practitioner. Eye cleansing, a shorter herbal wash, is offered on its own or as a preparation.
