AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
Uro
Basti
Warm medicated oil retained over the chest. Traditionally used for muscular chest tightness, respiratory heaviness, and to nourish the chest region in Ayurvedic care. At Arogya Retreatt.
01WHAT IT IS
उरो बस्ति · Uras, the chest
Uro Basti applies the Basti principle to the chest. A dough ring is placed over the sternum and filled with warm medicated oil, which is retained for the session. The warmth eases the intercostal and pectoral muscles and, in Ayurvedic understanding, nourishes the heart and lung region.
It is traditionally used for muscular chest tightness, a sense of heaviness in breathing, and as supportive care in long-standing respiratory tendencies once any acute episode has settled. It is always given after assessment, as chest symptoms need medical evaluation before any complementary therapy.
02HOW IT IS DONE AT AROGYA
- 01
Consultation reviews your respiratory and cardiac history and confirms suitability.
- 02
You lie on your back and the dough ring is sealed over the centre of the chest.
- 03
Warm medicated oil is poured in and kept at a constant temperature.
- 04
The oil is retained for around thirty minutes while you rest and breathe gently.
- 05
The oil is drained and the chest is lightly massaged.

05QUESTIONS
Common questions about Uro Basti.
Is Uro Basti a treatment for asthma?
It is used as supportive care in long-standing respiratory tendencies alongside conventional treatment, never as a replacement. Please continue prescribed medicines and discuss your history at consultation.
Can I have it if I have heart disease?
This depends on the individual case. Bring your reports to the consultation so that the practitioner can decide safely.
Does it help with anxiety?
Many guests carry anxiety as tightness in the chest, and the warmth and stillness of Uro Basti can be calming. It is often paired with pranayama and Shirodhara in a de-stress plan.
