MASSAGE TREATMENTS
Shashtika Shali Pinda
Sweda
Boluses of Navara rice cooked in milk and herbal decoction, massaged warm over the body. The classical nourishing therapy for weakness, muscle wasting, nerve conditions and joint pain.
01WHAT IT IS
षष्टिक शालि पिण्ड स्वेद · Navarakizhi · Bolus of medicated rice cooked in milk and herbal decoction
Listed in our catalogue as Shantishali Pind Swedan, this is the therapy Kerala Ayurveda calls Navarakizhi. Shashtika Shali, a rice that matures in sixty days, is cooked in milk and a decoction of Bala root, tied into boluses and massaged over the body while warm, dipped repeatedly in the milk decoction.
Unlike the drying Podikizhi, this is a nourishing sudation. It is traditionally used where tissue needs building: weakness after illness, muscle wasting, neurological conditions, chronic joint pain and stiffness, and for guests who are depleted rather than congested.

Is this the same as Podikizhi?
No. Podikizhi uses dry herbal powders and is drying and stimulating. This therapy uses rice cooked in milk and is nourishing and building. The practitioner chooses based on whether you need lightening or strengthening.
