AYURVEDIC TREATMENTS
Janu
Basti
Warm medicated oil retained over the knee joint inside a dough ring. Used for knee pain, stiffness, early osteoarthritis and recovery after strain. Ayurvedic knee therapy in Bahadurgarh.
01WHAT IT IS
जानु बस्ति · Janu, the knee
Janu Basti applies the same principle as Kati Basti to the knee. A dough ring is sealed around the joint and filled with warm medicated oil that is kept at a steady temperature for the session. The warmth and the oil work into the joint capsule, ligaments and surrounding muscles.
It is traditionally used for the aching, stiff, creaking knee of early osteoarthritis, for pain after over-use or minor strain, and for stiffness that follows long immobility. In Ayurvedic terms it pacifies Vata in the joint and nourishes the tissues that lubricate it.
02HOW IT IS DONE AT AROGYA
- 01
Consultation confirms the knee to be treated, the oil and any precautions.
- 02
You lie comfortably with the knee supported and the dough ring is shaped around the joint.
- 03
Warm medicated oil is poured in and kept at a constant temperature throughout.
- 04
The oil is retained for around thirty minutes.
- 05
The oil is removed and the joint is gently massaged; local steam may follow if advised.

05QUESTIONS
Common questions about Janu Basti.
Can both knees be treated in one session?
Yes, both knees can be treated together when the practitioner advises it. The session takes a little longer.
Will Janu Basti cure osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis is a long-term condition. Janu Basti is used to relieve pain and stiffness and to support mobility. It is most effective as part of a broader plan that includes diet, gentle exercise and periodic courses of therapy.
Is it suitable after knee replacement?
Please discuss this at consultation. Treatment over a replaced joint is decided case by case and only after the surgical site has fully healed.
