HYDROTHERAPY
Immersion
Baths
Full-body baths at cold, hot or neutral temperature, or with Epsom salt. Each has a distinct effect: neutral calms, cold invigorates, hot relaxes and sweats, Epsom eases aching muscles.
01WHAT IT IS
The full immersion bath is naturopathy's most versatile application, and temperature is everything. A neutral bath, close to body temperature, is one of the most reliable sedatives known to natural medicine and is used for anxiety, insomnia and agitation. A cold immersion is brief and invigorating, training the circulation and lifting energy. A hot immersion relaxes muscles and induces sweating. An Epsom salt bath adds magnesium sulphate to warm water to ease aching muscles and support relaxation.
The practitioner prescribes which bath, at what temperature and for how long, and the sequence of baths across a program.
